Our Story:
South Africa has shown the world that forgiveness and reconciliation are possible. We are proud of our achievements. Some tours remind us of our fragmented and bitter past, yet show what we have overcome through the political miracle, which began with Nelson Mandela’s release in February 1990.
Once divided, we are now striving to build a new nation. When you visit South Africa, Cape by Design Tours can create a platform for opportunities across boundaries between you and the diverse people of this land.
Our Responsibility:
We work in harmony with our fellow South Africans and wish to create economic opportunities where possible. We work in harmony with our natural heritage and ecology by promoting care for our environment.
We want communities to benefit. We want our creatures and plants to flourish.
Our Tours:
Let us know what your interests are. We will tailor all tours to your needs. We offer a value for money experience.

Cape by Design Tours is owned by Jacqui Braunlich, a committed Capetonian, born and bred. She grew up in apartheid South Africa, experienced the euphoria of Mandela’s release, the sobering reality of our socio-political problems and awakened to our incredible potential. Jacqui has worked in education, music, journalism, broadcasting and now tourism.
Jacqui speaks fluent German, Dutch, English, Afrikaans and a bit of Xhosa.

We’ll be Back Again!
We had the most amazing time with Jacqui when we visited Cape Town recently.
It was our second trip there so we wanted to see different things.
One of the highlights was a tour to the beautiful wine area of Constantia, which was right on our doorstep. Jacqui took us on a walk through oak forests and vineyards, from one wine estate to another. She knows this area really well and could show us many a pretty corner as she used to ride horses here as a girl.
We visited a magnificent manor house preserved in the Cape Dutch Style. At Klein Constantia and Buitenverwachting we tasted their top class wines and had lunch at the excellent restaurant.
Another highlight was a drive through a National Park, along the most stunning False Bay coastline to Betty’s Bay. Here we visited a not so touristy and quiet penguin colony and we could really spend time observing and admiring the comical birds.
We had lunch at the local Botanical Garden where we had time to admire many different proteas and lovely flowers and learn all about fynbos.
We will definitely keep going back to that marvellous city and country and we will again ask Jacqui to organise our next trip, she opened our eyes to the depth and beauty of her country.

What a Privelege!
What a precious privilege it was to tour two Cape Town townships under the thoughtful guidance of our wonderful tour guide Jacqui and the local guide she chose to accompany us, a budding young woman starting out.
Being able to "visit" with people living in Langa and Gugulethu Township brought alive many of the historical events Capetown experienced in the Apartheid Period. Jacqui was able to do this as she experienced these times first-hand as an SABC journalist. Her insight and indepth knowledge of South African politics, history and culture, made the miracle of that country’s transition come alive.
During the trip one of the craft projects we visited was a ceramic studio run by local crafters. I really treasure the lovely coffee mugs, decorated with guinea fowls, that I bought there.
I came away from SA longing for more. It was all the more wonderful as we had the privilege of staying in Jacqui's quaint cottage, Wolwekrantz, overlooking the majestic Hout Bay, right next to Capetown.

Nothing in the world is more important when visiting a country then the person that accompanies you. Fortunately we were lucky enough to have Jacqui as our tour leader during one of our annual familiarization trips with Dutch travel agents and tour operators. Our tour started in Cape Town, taking us through the Garden Route and ending on the wonderful coast of Port Elizabeth. Jacqui in all aspects of the tour was a fantastic tour leader. Her knowledge on South Africa both from a historical, natural and cultural point of view was absolutely amazing. But knowledge isn’t the only importance, as a person Jacqui was great to have with us. She’s very organized and made certain that each and everyone in the group was enjoying, learning and comfortable. Travel agents and tour operators aren’t the easiest group to travel around with but they all were listening carefully to her stories when traveling through the South African countryside. When it was time for us to fly back to the Netherlands we all had tears in our eyes having to leave Jacqui behind as she had become part of the group. I can definitely recommend traveling through South Africa with Jacqui to anyone and have done so… Jacqui thanks again!

We experienced Jacqui as a very friendly and very competent Tour guide. Through her thorough and extensive knowledge of South Africa, the Cape region and Cape Town we really learned a lot from Jacqui. She especially awakened us to the beauty of our surroundings.
The tours we did with Jacqui were very well organised and extremely interesting.
We recommend Jacqui 100%!
