In a recent survey by Tourlane Travel Company, Cape Town was voted one of the world’s most eco-friendly travel destinations. Tourlane is a company committed to carbon neutral travel and sustainable tourism, so this is a great compliment indeed.
They took data from hundreds of cities around the world, taking into account things like air quality and ratio of tourists to locals. Of these many cities surveyed, Cape Town was in 41st place. Top spot went to Berlin, followed by Vienna and Munich. It was the only South African city placed in the survey.
Tourlane noted that travellers are choosing more and more to take a vacation to environmentally friendly destinations. While we as citizens of the Mother City of Cape Town are very proud of this achievement, we cannot rest on our laurels and know, as the world and tourism develops, we have a great responsibility to our own citizens as well as to those who visit our shores.
