Now that we're in Level 2 of lockdown and inter provincial travel is allowed, we would love to welcome fellow South Africans from other provinces to the Western Cape.
Great news for us in Cape Town is that the rains have been good this winter and the Wild Flower displays are absolutely wonderful. The West Coast National Park is open to visitors again after having been closed during strict lockdown. When the Spring flowers emerge in August and September visitors are treated to the most spectacular displays of wild flowers, so prolific that they actually form carpets as far as the eye can see. In Cape Town we are lucky enough to be within a 2 hour drive from this park, so a day tour to visit this amazing sight is easily do-able. Cape by Design Tours has been offering Flower Tours for several years and this year is not one to be missed.
During only the two months of August and September each year, the best part of the park, called Postberg, is opened to day visitors. This section offers the most wonderful flower displays and also the opportunity to see wildlife such as zebra, bat-eared foxes, ostrich, bontebok, scrub hares and eland to name but a few, as well as beautiful birds like oyster catchers and various raptors. There are wonderful view spots where you may get out of the vehicle and take photos to your heart’s content.
In August and September, when the Postberg section of the West Coast National Park is open, you are in effect on a peninsula with the azure Langebaan Lagoon on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other. The colours and islands of the Lagoon make it a really picturesque backdrop. And on the Atlantic side, you may even be treated to the sight of Southern Right whales which visit our coastline from July to November each year.
Due to the Covid 19 pandemic and the desire for couples, families and groups to be small, this is the ideal tour for such groups. All Covid 19 Protocols will be in place in the vehicle and at the Park. We can organise a picnic for you, you can bring along your own, or we can have a sit down meal or get a take out at the lovely Geelbek Restaurant in the Park.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us should you wish to book this tour.
And if you’re an avid Instagrammer, this is a great opportunity to take those unique and attention- grabbing pics.
